Gather 'Round Quilt from Dizzy Quilts

Yet another Bonjour Quilts pattern all made up! This one is called Gather 'Round and I'm more than a little bit in love with it.

Besides the 3.25 yards of background fabric (which is Kona Ash in my version), this pattern doesn't require a whole lot - one yard of the chevron fabric (Kona White here) and 0.75 yard of the motif fabric (Kona Berry). I can picture it being pieced from a variety of different fabrics in the same colour family though - so you potentially could use fat quarters.

Kristy who is the designer behind Bonjour ...

Introducing Winter Trees from Patterns by Jen

I'm so excited to introduce you to the first pattern from Patterns By Jen for 2021!

Winter Trees is the perfect quilt to keep around all winter long.

I love this quilt. When I started sketching it I wanted something simple that brought to mind the quiet in the winter woods.

There's a special silence that takes over the woods when the snow is falling, it's something that can't be described, but I hope this pattern brings it to mind.

It's not just a quilt pattern, it's a bed runner, too.

Add a modern ...

Diamonds in the Deep in Grey from Dizzy Quilts

I pinned the Diamonds in the Deep quilt pattern by Bonjour Quilts a few years ago but I somehow only bought the pattern recently. And then a few weeks ago I finally started cutting the fabric to make it. I hesitated on the colours to use for a while but ended-up settling on Kona White and Kona Coal both of which I had plenty of in my stash.

I wanted to do something a little bit different for the centre squares and used a fat quarter of some sparkly fabric.

For the backing, I used an old sheet my hubby ...

Lotus Blossoms Quilt from Dizzy Quilts

My first finish of 2021! To be honest, 2020 was such a weird and crazy year, I'm really happy to be writing about a 2021 finish!

Over the last few months of 2020, I've really been struggling with the quantity of quilts and garments I've been making. I obviously don't need all the quilts I've made and I'm working from home so how many garments do I really need? BUT sewing is how I relax, how I take my mind off work and how I stay sane. So stopping really isn't an option ...

Leela from Sew Preeti Quilts

One week before Christmas

Me: If Dan has no other plans, ask him to join us for dinner on Christmas Eve.
Paul: Will do.
Me: Do you know what you want to eat?
Paul (excitedly): Let's get Chinese...like in Christmas Story.
Me (realistically): Are you sure Dan will be OK with it?
Paul: I dunno.
Me: Let's just do the regular turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes etc.  We can do the Chinese for New Years, when it is just us.
Paul: OK. Then let me pick up the meal from Harris-Teeter.
Me: How much?
Paul: $50 for turkey ...

Oh Happy Day! Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

The quilt I'm sharing today had been on my list for a long time - since November 2016 to be exact. It was the quilt of the month Modern Quilt Guild members had access to and because I'm a huge fan of its designer - Yvonne Fuchs from Quilting Jetgirl - I just had to download it. Yvonne has since added the pattern to her shop here. It's a great quilt with fabulous instructions - I highly recommend it.

Yvonne's version was in a gorgeous orange and cream. When I flipped through my Kona card, the Emerald green really spoke ...

Sprinkle! from Dizzy Quilts

I didn't think I'd like this finish as much as I do. I mean, obviously, I liked the pattern because I bought it, but I was afraid my fabric choices wouldn't be great. When I purchased the pattern, I really wanted to make it out of the same colour but in different values. My stash, however, didn't have enough fat quarters of the same colours to make it work and I really didn't want to order fabric for this.

Anyhow - I went with solid fabric in a bunch of different colours and Kona Ash as ...

Our (Property) Values from Sew Preeti Quilts

The year was 2005. I was working as a junior planner in Fort Lauderdale. Broward County was conducting a public hearing on a proposed light rail line connecting the western part of the county to downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The beginning

After Touch-up (Head, Flower & Shoe completed)

I remember arriving at the venue about 4:00PM, setting up easels showing the area maps, flip boards and markers, and sign in sheets with several pens. The event began at 6:00PM with a formal presentation from the Florida Department of Transportation ...

300 Posts Party at Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Happy 300th to Free Motion Mavericks!

What a special anniversary to be celebrating. Muv from Lizzie Lenard Vintage Sewing started Free
300th Linking up Party
Motion Mavericks on Thursday, 5 June 2014, to fill the void after Leah Day stopped hosting her Free Motion Friday. I had a wonderful trip down memory lane going through all of the posts to get to the first, original Free Motion Mavericks post.

I discovered the Free Motion Mavericks linking party in March of 2015, at Muv's 36th post. I was free motion quilting (FMQ) a wholecloth quilt based on ...

Times Square Quilt from Dizzy Quilts

I like to plan my sewing projects each quarter - probably due to the fact that I used to host the Finish-Along for which you were required to list all the projects you were planning on working on over a 3-month period. Back in June, when planning my makes for quarter 3 of 2020, I pulled out my quilting books and started flipping through them hoping to get inspired.

When going through the Vintage Quilt Revival book, I decided to add the Times Square quilt to my list of projects.

My version is very different from the quilt in the book ...

Pretty Pink Papilionini from Elsie Quilts

I may have the Latin name wrong, but it sounds good and begins with P --- and this one is finally finished, labeled and ready to go to a good home. I'd thought I'd keep it but have nothing pink in my house except a small bit of leftover scraps. Also, when

I realized I liked the label as much as the quilt, that seemed a good reason to find a lover of pink. It is 58.5" x 64" and quilted with a Panto called "Fanciful Flyers" in the middle. I made up the border which doesn't ...

Another "Giant Blocks" Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

Back in November last year, I made a small quilt based on Kitchen Table Quilting's Giant Blocks series. I loved making that quilt so much, when I was planning my to make list for this Summer, I added another Giant Blocks quilt to it.

This is the August block which is crazy simple to sew, but when you put a few of them together in a quilt (in this case 9), they create a really striking design.

When I was planning which fabrics I would use to make this, I misread the tutorial and thought I needed four different ...

A Pink Postage Plus Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

My husband owns an old classic car - a 1968 Dodge Coronet which he just loves. He is constantly tinkering with it, fixing this and that and to help him, he's good friends with a mechanic. This friend has spent a lot of time on the car and during one of his visits, hubby discovered that his wife is a crafter and a huge fan of the colour pink. So to thank them, he asked me to make her a quilt.

I was already planning to revisit the Postage Plus quilt pattern from the book Modern Plus Sign Quilts by ...

Eggs and Bacon from Sew Preeti Quilts

Happy to be Scrappy

Me: Good morning
Paul (groan)
Me: Would you like some breakfast?
Paul: Do we have bacon?
Me: I don't think so.
Paul (Bigger Groan + A Whine)
Me: I can make you an egg sandwich.
Paul: Without bacon??? Why did you wake me up anyway?

How to put these together?

The smaller block needs help

Black floral + orange/yellow stripe is better than just the stripe

Matched size = Success

And so it grows!!!

Eggs without bacon is an insult...at least in Paul's opinion.
So when this cute pig ended up next to the eggs ...

Star Gazing at the Cabin from Quilt Doodle Doodles

I have an idea! I think it's a wonderful notion... let me tell you all about it. Remember last year I showed you my Snowman Snow Globe panel and I wrote the 'Star Gazing' pattern. It's a super easy quilt to piece together using a Rail Fence block and some applique snowflakes.

What if you substituted the Lumberjack Primo Plaids for the blues and used the Woodland Getaway panel? I think it would make for a wonderful winter themed quilt.
What do you think? I'm thinking I need to make one! Here's how I would go ...

Wake Me Up Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

When I found the Wake Me Up Quilt by Emma Jean Janson, I was immediately drawn to it because of the amazing scrappiness possibilities! I'm still trying to get through my huge, huge scrap piles - does anyone ever get "through" their scrap piles? - so I'm always on the lookout for simple, fun scrap quilt patterns.

I was a little bit afraid using many different scraps would look like a hot mess, but I'm pretty pleased with the results.

I really like working with scraps - it's almost like a trip down memory lane during which I get ...

Push-Pull Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

Back on October 2019, Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl announced her Push-Pull Quilt-Along. I've been following Yvonne's blog for a long time and I own a number of her patterns because I just love her design style. So when I saw the Push-Pull Quilt-Along announcement, I knew I had to participate.

I'm not usually very good at keeping up with quilt-alongs. I'm super motivated at the beginning and then end-up getting behind and just abandoning the project. But I loved making this one - the piecing isn't complicated at all and the monthly instructions were the perfect ...

A Weekender Finish from Dizzy Quilts

At the risk of sounding like a one-trick pony, I made another charm square quilt. I'd forgotten how much fun these are to sew - there is usually very little cutting and all the fabrics go together well! The quilt I'm sharing with you today is from a pattern I've used once before, almost 8 years go now. It's from another tutorial from the Moda Bakeshop (I used to get most of the patterns I sewed from the Moda Bakeshop back in the day).

Just like many of the charm packs I've used recently, these colours ...

Large Star Bright Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

A couple of weeks ago, I really needed a quick and simple project to work on. I started looking through the quilt patterns I already had on hand and found this one which I used a few months ago for a new Christmas tree skirt. I knew this one would a good one to work on! I even found a gorgeous stack of 10" squares to make it.

The fabric is Nature Walk by Tamara Kate. I purchased these from Tamara at a craft fair a few years ago. The prints are absolutely gorgeous and I'm so pleased this ...
